Italian Sausage Jerry
Steps
- Heat the olive oil in a large, heavy skillet over low heat. Add the sausages and brown them slowly for 20 to 25 minutes, turning occasionally.
- Once the sausages are beautifully browned, add all of your ingredients to the skillet—including the optional yellow peppers, onions, and a splash of wine if using—except for the green bell peppers.
- Keep the heat on low and let the mixture simmer gently for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to let the flavors meld.
- Stir in the sliced green bell peppers. Continue cooking on low heat for another 30 to 40 minutes. The longer and slower this dish cooks, the richer and more enhanced the overall flavor profile becomes.
- Once the peppers are perfectly tender and the sauce is rich and thick, your dish is ready to enjoy.
Kitchen Tip: To minimize oil splatters while keeping the texture perfect, place a lid over the skillet, leaving it slightly cracked on one side to vent steam.
Delicious Ways to Serve
Over Pasta: Toss this rich sauce and sausage over your favorite pasta. It pairs beautifully with delicate angel hair pasta.
On French Bread: Slice a loaf of crusty French bread into long lengths, load it up with the sausages, peppers, and plenty of sauce, and serve it sandwich-style (just like an authentic Italian beef).
Optional
In lieu of adding Tomato Paste, add 1, 15 oz can of Tomato Sauce to provide a thicker sauce. Also increases the total volume made.
